Regent House School holds successful scholarship event with FirstPoint USA.

Regent House School, recognised as one of the top academic grammar schools in Northern Ireland, recently held a scholarship evening for its secondary students with partner FirstPoint USA to showcase the incredible scholarship opportunities available in America through FirstPoint’s world-leading sports scholarship programme.

Regent House is a co-educational grammar school with girls and boys in roughly equal numbers being admitted from a diverse range of backgrounds and schools throughout North Down and Belfast.  Sport plays an important role at the school and in addition to its broad academic curriculum, pupils can participate in more than 20 sports.

The scholarship event was promoted by Regent House’s Director of Sport, Budge Pountney – a rugby ‘legend’ with 31 caps for Scotland who works with FirstPoint as an Elite Scouting Partner.  His objective is to develop sport at the school and support student-athletes to be the best they can be.

Budge says: “With Regent House consistently being one of the top academic grammar schools in NI our aim is to make sure that our students make the most of the life-changing opportunities available to them after they’ve worked so hard in their academic studies. Those who manage to combine high academic studies with an elite level of sport generally show a huge amount of dedication and self-organisation and these students deserve to be given the opportunities available to study at fantastic universities”.  Budge continues: “This is why we partnered with FirstPoint, we needed a scholarship agency who could match the commitment and dedication of our students and we were impressed by FirstPoint’s proven track-record of success”.

More than 40 pupils at Regent House in years 10-13 attended the event, as well as students from local sports clubs.  Students represented a wide-variety of sports and were keen to hear about the scholarship opportunities available in America through FirstPoint’s network of over 2,500 colleges and universities.  FirstPoint’s talent management team was on on-hand to answer questions and provide an insight into the US college assessment programme.

Dean Kelbrick, Head of Partnerships at FirstPoint says: “Everyone at Regent House School has been very eager to support the partnership we have built over the past few months and we’re all excited to explore ways in which we can create additional opportunities for the school’s pupils.   With many hard-working young student-athletes, Regent House is a breeding ground for future stars across numerous fields, both sporting and otherwise and FirstPoint is thrilled to be playing a role in supporting these young people”.
